525 Clinton Avenue354 viewsFrom Marilyn Birkenmeier:
On January 17, 1898, my great-grandfather, August G. Birkenmeier, became a principal of Cort Hardware, 159 South Orange Ave, Newark NJ. April 1, 1909, he changed the name to “Birkenmeier & Ogden.”
Around 1925 they teamed up with Mr. Kuhn to form “Birkenmeier & Kuhn Hardware Co.” This is a picture of “Birkenmeier & Kuhn Hardware” at 525/529 Clinton Ave, Newark, NJ, date May 25, 1925. The picture shows my father, Robert Wilbur Birkenmeier, age 8, standing in front of his Dad. The four men immediately behind my father, left to right are: Robert Christian Franklin Birkenmeier (with moustache), Wilbur Jefferson Birkenmeier (Father of little Robert), Alfred G. Birkenmeier (with moustache) - all of whom are brothers and then it is believed to be Mr Kuhn to the right (at little Robert's left shoulder.) Brother Norman Jonathan Birkenmeier and father, August G. Birkenmeier are absent from the picture.
