875 Broad Street585 viewsThis is a photo of my great grandfather E G Koenig, and his son, Albert S. Koenig. The E G Koenig Sporting Goods store was founded 1872 and lasted until 1925. The corner was the site of the parsonage for the Old First Church and was the birth site of Aaron Burr, third president of the United States. A book about the history of this store and its owners is to be released in the coming months. Watch for it! The building still stands and is one that deserves preservation by the City of Newark.

585 viewsThis photo was taken around 1897 and most likely from the roof of Feigenspan's Brewery on Freeman Street. The view is to the west northwest. The large chimney in the center of the photo is from the P. Reilly & Sons Tannery which was located between Providence & Lexington Streets. The factory area extended from the Morris Canal south almost to Bowery Street (Fleming Avenue) which would be the middle of the photograph, left to right. The first street from the bottom running L to R is Oxford Street.
